It really had to do with your perception on the matter, Kira idly noted as he ran his hands over the different squares of color. At first it had seemed kind of pointless to him. It was just a room, nothing special, nothing too terribly complicated. It was just a place to live in; but it was their place.

"Hey Kira, what about this one?"

Kira turned around to see that Shuuhei was holding a little square of color that was such a violent pink it almost made Kira choke.

"No, not in a million years," he growled out, shaking his head and turning away. He tried to ignore the obnoxious snicker he got in return. He knew Shuuhei was just trying to mess with him. He was always trying to mess with him.

"Aww come on Izuru, you know you love it," Shuuhei sang in his fake sing song voice he only used when he was trying to pester someone.

"I said no!" Kira snapped back, not willing to humor him on this occasion. He heard Shuuhei give another snicker and rolled his eyes. He really should be used to this by now.

"Fine, fine, don't get so irritated," Shuuhei drawled, placing the little square back in its place. They had been there for forty minutes already and yet they still couldn't decide on what color they were going to get. It didn't help that Shuuhei seemed more entertained by finding the worst colors possible and picking them out.

When Shuuhei had asked him what color he wanted to paint the bedroom of their new summer home Kira had thought he was insane. It wasn't like they didn't use the new home that often, in fact they used it a lot whenever they managed to get some form of time off, even if it was rare. They both agreed staying coped up in the division headquarters was bad for their health. It wasn't like they got out of the office much, not when they didn't have a captain to handle the paperwork. The duties had been shoved onto Shuuhei and Kira, meaning they were both chained to their desks. Since their divisions had to resort to jobs that the fourth normally took care of it meant a lot more work for the two fuku-taichous. So in order to escape Seireitei they had bought a small home in Rukongai. It was a rather nice home, all things considered, furnished with only the bare necessities, but that was all they really needed. So when Shuuhei wanted to paint the house, Kira was surprised. The current colors were all off white, but it fit their lifestyle just fine. There was no need to paint anything.

Kira scanned the rack once more, selecting a beige color and frowning down at it. It could work. They had furniture that would look great with it. He started to get Shuuhei's attention but stopped when he looked over to see his lover holding a range of blue's in his hand. He was frowning heavily, eyes narrowed in pure concentration.

"Shuu?" Kira asked almost timidly, suddenly concerned about the look on his face. He seemed upset about something.

"Izuru, blue's one of your favorite colors, right?"

Kira nodded, a bit confused by the sudden change in attitude.

"Then what do you think about this color?" Shuuhei asked, holding up the most elegant blue he had seen in awhile. It was soft, light, and somehow creamy. A bit more striking than a baby blue, but still just enough to be an accent color.

"I think I like that one," Kira found himself saying not really paying too much attention to what was coming out of his mouth. The color was perfect. It would tie everything in better than the beige he was holding ever could. He walked to his lovers side, wrapping one arm around his waist and plucking the color card out of his hand. He stared at it a bit more before turning a serene smile to Shuuhei.

"Can we get this one?"

Shuuhei turned his storm grey eyes on his lover and nodded slightly, troubled look melting away.

"Good," Kira said, grabbing hold of Shuuhei's hand and dragging him up to the old man that worked at his small paint shop. While Shuuhei paid for the paint and supplies they had gathered earlier, Kira looked on in silence.

They really didn't need to paint their bedroom, but still. It would be nice to do something productive for once. That and it would give him an excuse to be with Shuuhei more. Kira blinked a few times, a look mixed with surprise, comprehension, and joy crossing over his face. Time alone with Shuuhei was rare, but if they had a good reason to go out then they could. The problem was that they never really had a substantial reason other than wanting to spend time together. Kira looked over at Shuuhei, noting the fuku-taichou was smiling for once. The crease between his eyes that normally made him look like he was glaring was gone too. It didn't matter what the real reason was, but if it made that look come across the elders face, Kira was happy.

It really just depended on your perception on the matter, but to Kira, it was the simple gestures that seemed to matter more than anything.

Well then. I don't really like how I wrote this. Not my best work and I have no idea where this came from, but oh well XD It gave me something to do haha.

What do you mean you don't like how you wrote this?! This is just...well, I can't even begin to describe it but I'll try. It's a very calming piece, I really like the little details that shed light on their relationship and their easy banter. The both of them are very in character! I really, really like this fic!

thanks for sharing!

I wish you had popped in like a week or so earlier than you did! I would have begged on all fours asked you oh, so very nicely to sign up for the ShuuKira Valentine Fanwork Exchange! D:

But anyway, I thought you ought to know--in case you don't--that the community is hosting a Fanwork Exchange for this Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, sign-ups are closed but I just thought I'd bat my eyelashes at you for a fic or two or three or four for the occasion if you felt like joining in on the fun. XD

Oh, I have every intention of writing anyone that's dropt me a comment so far a little something for Valentines day :P. My little way of saying thanks for being so nice to me. OS never fear! They're probably being a fic or two, or knowing me, five or six XD

That was just so lovely~~ I think the blue they picked out captures the fic itself very well.

Very calming as Antha said, but still with a good amount of energy!

And now, I cannot get Shuuhei laughing at a pink paint sample square out of my head.

Lmao. Oh yes, that image is going to be following me for the rest of the day.

I'm glad it was calm. That's kind of the emotions I wanted to get across. That and I was watching way too much HGTV and I thought they should have colored that Japanese style room blue >.<

Thanks for reading!

(hey wait a minute, doesn't Kira have blue eyes? ^^)

That was truly lovely, you're a ShuuKira master. The light-heartedness just made my day (even though it's almost night). And the boys were IC, which I admire much ^^ Good job!

*gives many many cookies!*

(lmao, why yes, yes he does >=3 )

:DDDDD Thanks, you're really too kind ^.^ It's fun writing stuff with this pairing hahaha. For some reason it's really easy, if that makes sense. I don't feel like I have a hard time getting them to stay IC. Maybe I'm just a freak :D But thank you SOOOO much for your wonderful compliment.

*takes cookies greedily* I'm going to be so fat if you give me anymore, but you know, I don't really mind XD
